This screenshot from Syphon Filter 3 for the PlayStation 1 is open to interpretation, but I’m pretty sure the vending machine on the right is stocked with drinks. The one on the left looks more like a cigarette machine to me.

You might recognize this soda machine from other games like Estranged: Act II, Emily Wants to Play Too, Project Lambda, and SCUM. People have asked in the past how I handle these stock assets — or, for that matter, recycled assets like the Nuka-Cola machine from Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. Generally speaking, I add them to the site for archival purposes, but I don’t count them toward the collection’s “grand total” after their first appearance. Just a peek behind the curtain…

Project Lambda
Project Lambda is a remake of the original Half-Life using Unreal Engine 4. It’s still a work in progress, so we can only hope the team will eventually replace these stock soda machine assets with shiny new versions of Half-Life’s Soda Soda Pop and juice vending machines.

Fallout 76
The Fallout 76 B.E.T.A. is underway, and I grabbed this screenshot while scouring the campus of Vault-Tec University. For those keeping score at home, it’s the same model previously used in Fallout 4.
As always, folks can’t get enough of that great Nuka-Cola taste…
