Truck Kyousoukyoku: Ai to Kanashimi no Rodeo
I’ve spent forever trying to track down a copy of Truck Kyousoukyoku: Ai to Kanashimi no Rodeo (Truck Mad Dash Melody: Rodeo of Love and Sadness) for the PlayStation 2 so I could capture a screenshot of these beachside soda machines.
In the process, I also learned about dekotora—the Japanese word for flamboyantly decorated art trucks like the ones featured in Truck Kyousoukyoku. At last, I have some cultural context for the tricked-out trucks that occasionally appear in the background of Street Fighter stages!
Simple DS Series Vol. 8: The Kanshikikan
This drink machine is from Simple DS Series Vol. 8: The Kanshikikan – Kinkyuu Shutsudou!! Jiken Genba wo Touch Seyo, a visual novel for the Nintendo DS. I’ve developed a real knack over the past few years of muddling through dialogue trees in Japanese visual novels in order to screenshot the inevitable Act 2 soda machine, despite my inability to read even a single word of Japanese.
SAS: Secure Tomorrow
Treat yourself to a refreshing City Cola, presumably named after SAS: Secure Tomorrow’s developer, City Interactive. If you need an extra boost, perhaps a Selena Energy Drink is more your speed.
And, just for good measure, here are some coffee machines from the game.
Thanks for the screenshots, Trundles!
Pokémon Sword and Shield
Maybe they should have called this game Pokémon Sword and Shield and Soda, amirite? Thanks for the screenshot, Simon!
Frogsheen
Wow! There’s a cola named after me in Ultra Frogsheen in Sonoland, an upcoming retro platformer from the fine folks at Infamous Quests, including pixel artist extraordinaire Kevin Wallace. What an honor!
In case you’re wondering, I imagine Jess Cola tastes a lot like RC Cola, only with a hint of cinnamon.
Superliminal
Check out some of these dreamy soda flavors in first-person puzzler Superliminal. Random Soda, Baking Soda, Mini Soda, Water Soda…
Thanks for the screenshots, RobBoberty!
